Pioneers made their clothing themselves and children were taught to sew at a young age.

Much of the clothing was made from the wool that they sheared from the sheep. Children were involved in this process by helping to wash and card the wool to prepare it for spinning on the spinning wheel.

Pioneers also grew flax to obtain linen thread for clothing and fabric.
Children’s clothing looked similar to their parents. Baby boys and girls wore the same kind of dresses until 3-5 years old.
